“Mike’s Night” Benefit Held in Carrington on April 17

A spaghetti supper, bake sale, and silent auction benefit was held on Friday night, April 17, to assist Mike Parr and his family.  Mike, a paramedic at Carrington Health Center, was injured in an accident during a patient transfer.

Free-will donations (with matching funds from Thrivent Financial) were accepted during the spaghetti supper that was served from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM.  A Bake Sale was held at the same time as the supper, as well as a Silent Auction of over 200 items.

Mike’s Night was held at the Calvary Baptist Church building, where Mike and Kristi’s daughter Katie attends Awana.

Mariann Doeling, Administrator for Carrington Health Center said, “CHC’s business is taking care of people, and what is more important than our own paramedic?  Mike Parr has been an asset to the Carrington Health Center Ambulance Department since he arrived in Carrington twelve years ago.  He gives so much of himself to Carrington and this is our opportunity to give back to Mike and his family.”

The event was a combined effort with volunteers from Carrington Health Center, Fessenden Ambulance, New Rockford Ambulance, and the Carrington Fire Department.  “We’ve had a beautiful response of offerings to help from all departments here at the Health Center, and from the local firemen, and from ambulance crews at Bowdon, Fessenden, and New Rockford.  We had so much fun and fellowship in all of this,” says Bakke.

With his patience and compassionate ways, Mike has helped many in our region, and this was one small way that those whose lives he touched could give back. The guest register listed 547 people, and another 43 signed the volunteer/helper list.  Such an outpouring of support was a huge blessing to Mike and his family.

Monetary donations can still be mailed to the attention of Jan Bakke, Mission and Spiritual Care Coordinator, Carrington Health Center, PO Box 461, Carrington, ND  58421.  Checks should be made payable to Thrivent Financial to allow for matching funds.
